Chat Guidelines

The Diaspora Community utilizes America Online's chat rooms for both AOL and AIM users. AIM (www.aim.com) is a free program and is available for all users to download. As such, you should either install AIM or use an AOL account to access our chat rooms.

In addition, AOL has rules/guidelines for using their chat rooms. Click here to view those rules.

The Diaspora Community has several guidelines for use of its chat rooms. We work on an honor system, as we cannot enforce rules in our chat rooms. Our community is based on trust and mutual understanding that we work as a team and promote and utilize our resources as a team. As such, we ask you to follow these rules:

  1. Discontinue chatting in a chat room when a scheduled chat is scheduled to use the room. You should either move to another room or make your own room.
  2. Please do not use inappropriate language. We have people of all ages in our forum and most adults find vulgar language offensive.
  3. No advertisements for games, websites, or products allowed in the chat rooms. The rooms are meant for gaming and game discussions, not recruiting or selling products. Discussion of games is encouraged, however.
  4. Scrolling is not allowed. Scrolling is defined as repeatedly pasting the same message two or more times with the purpose to disrupt a chat or annoy the chat room members.
  5. Utilize the ignore feature of AIM or AIM to block annoying members. Right click on their name and choose ignore. Once an X appears next to their name, their chat will not appear on your screen.
Follow these rules and you and everyone else should enjoy their chatting experience.
